Original Excerpt

Past few weeks have been traumatic for our neighbor, devastating suicide attacks have shook Pakistan. People are scared, law enforcement itself is under attack and the government is unable to do anything about it. What we are seeing in Pakistan is outcome of Zia Ul Haq's extreme religious policies initiated 30 years ago. NATO and Pakistani pro US government are (unsuccessfully) trying to undo religious extremism which has been in making for almost 30 years. Pakistan has branded the so called 'freedom fighter’s which it supported against USSR in Afghanistan and later used against India in Kashmir as Taliban. The mujahedeen’s which Pakistan used to bleed India in Kashmir are now sucking Pakistan dry. ‘If not helped Pakistan could collapse in 6 months’ these words are of David Kilcullen, advisor to US Central Command, these words might sound exaggerating but current scenario in Pak does not look promising either. Pakistan has been named as failed state by BBC, Fund for Peace and Noam Chomsky; in 2008 Pakistan ranked 9th in world failed state list of Foreign Policy Magazine. US does not really care for a united Pakistan, one of the biggest goal of US in the war on terror is eliminating Pakistani nukes. If extremists get their hands on these nukes they will definitely use them against India, Israel and may be against USA, thanks to its distant location. So before Pakistan falls apart USA and its allies will make sure those nukes disappear. If Pakistan falls apart the main reason for it will be religion, ironically Pakistan was created in the name of religion. The following words of Madalyn Murray O’Hair describe current situation in Pakistan best -‘Religion is induced insanity’
